Star in a glance
The project intends to create a network of towns with a common strategy to promote social inclusion and decrease marginalization by rehabilitation of depressed and abandoned areas of European cities through street art.
The project will involve participants from 14 countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Czech Republic, France, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Portugal, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Germany, the Netherlands.

Objectives

  • Increasing citizens' participation and solidarity
  • Connecting people of different cultures
  • Regenerating depressed and abandoned areas resulting in decreased marginalization

Project activities
4 international events will take place respectively in Italy, Portugal and Kosovo Netherlands aiming at to build a network of cities sharing best practices on using street art as a tool for increasing citizen participation, to connect people of different cultures and regenerating depressed and abandoned areas resulting in decreased marginalisation.
Among the international events, 3 local paths will be organized with the involvement of citizens and schools in murals design, and aiming at:

  • To implement workshops for urban regeneration leading to reduced social exclusion and marginalisation;
  • To raise awareness on public policies for community interaction and promote citizen participation and solidarity;
  • To develop public awareness-raising activities to prevent discrimination and intolerance practices.
    For instance:
  • public/street debates, interviews, surveys
  • schools and communities engagement
  • community workshops based on non-formal education for better inclusion of citizens from diverse social backgrounds
  • creative sessions based on identify degraded/marginalised areas to design thinking method to collectively re-generate them, facilitating community engagement and increase of sense of belonging
  • debates, expert panels.

Results

  • Increased knowledge about mechanisms for social inclusion and citizens’ participation among partners
  • Increased solidarity between citizens and marginalized groups though active participation and interaction with citizens pertaining to different walks of life, cultures, economic and/or social status in street art workshops
  • Regeneration of depressed and critical areas of European cities, by using the power of street art in order to promote the intercultural dialogue and solidarity
  • Increased awareness and engagement at the local level on social urban issues
  • Dialogue between citizens and vulnerable groups (such as migrants, women and children) is encouraged during common activities and workshops at local and international level
  • Increased awareness on European values and the importance of strengthening the European integration process to share good practices related to face social exclusion and degradation, such as street art
  • Increased awareness about importance of social inclusion and citizens’ participation for future cities development
  • Regeneration of depressed and critical areas of European cities, by using the power of street art in order to promote the intercultural dialogue and solidarity
