Kauan holds a bachelor’s degree in Law from the Universidade Federal do Paraná, Brazil, and a master’s degree in Human Rights and Multi-level Governance from the University of Padova, Italy, with a specialisation in Civil Litigation from the Fundação Escola Superior do Ministério Público, Brazil.
Before joining ALDA, he volunteered in mental health and rehabilitation projects in Spain through the European Solidarity Corps. During his Master’s programme, he conducted a research internship at the Faculty of Law and Criminology of the University of Ghent, Belgium, and studied as part of the Erasmus+ programme at the School of Advanced Study of the University of London, United Kingdom, and at the Universidade of São Paulo, Brazil.
In Brazil, he worked for three years in public administration, providing legal assistance in civil, criminal, and domestic violence cases. He was also awarded scholarships for research, paper publication, and assisting professors, focusing on international human rights law, legal history, and legal anthropology. He further volunteered to provide legal counsel to Syrian and Haitian refugees and local rural communities and served as the Coordinator of Academic Affairs of the Law Students Union (2013/2014).
Since 2019, he has been working as a lawyer, specialising in legal translations and handling civil, criminal, and international private law cases . He actively participates in the Brazilian Bar Association Commissions on International Law, Constitutional Law, and its Truth Commission on Black Slavery.
Additionally, he is fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese and has a working knowledge of French and Italian
