Europe Day, 9 May 2013
The Association of Local Democracy Agencies marked the Europe Day on 9 May 2013 with several initiatives. ALDA’s President Oriano Otočan and Director Antonella Valmorbida attended the opening ceremony of the Center for EU and international cooperation in Bale/Valle (Istria, Croatia).
The inauguration of the Center was part of the European Week celebration 2013 in Istria, and represented a very important step before the Croatian accession to the EU.
On 10 May, ALDA Director will be one of the speakers at the event ‘Towards 2014: the Europe we want‘ (Verso il 2014: L’Europa che vogliamo), organised in Florence by Consiglio Italiano del Movimento Europeo (CIME) to debate on active European citizenship, participative democracy and the future of the EU. Staff of ALDA are involved in a training in the LDA in Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina); furthermore, all the LDAs are celebrating the day and the week with initiatives and events.
Europe Day celebrates peace and unity in Europe. The date marks the anniversary of the historical ‘Schuman declaration‘.

Opening of the Centre for EU and international cooperation in Bale/Valle, Thursday 9 May
The Center for EU and international cooperation opening ceremony took place on Thursday 9 May 2013 at 12:00 in Bale/Valle (Istria, Croatia). The inauguration of the Center was part of the European Week celebration 2013 in Istria, and represented a very important step before the Croatian accession to the EU. The Center is financed within the project Adri Gov.
Core activities of the Center will be the area of education and information about EU programmes and projects, regional development and EU integration processes for public, private and civil sector in the Adriatic-Ionian territory. The Center will also deal with the preparation and implementation of EU projects, research and development, in cooperation with the University of Juraj Dobrila in Pula, the Association of Local Democracy Agencies and the AdriGov partners.
The Region of Istria has been actively involved in EU projects as well as bilateral and multilateral cooperation for many years, contributing to the access of the country to the European Union. One of the important goals of the Center is also to transfer the know-how to the wider territory in the South East Europe during the future processes of EU integration.
During the introduction, there were welcome speeches by Edi Pastrovicchio, Mayor of the Municipality of Bale/Valle, Oriano Otočan, Head of Department for International Cooperation and EU integration and President of ALDA, Region of Istria, Prof. Robert Matijašić, Rector of the University of Juraj Dobrila in Pula, H.E. Emanuela D’Alessandro, Ambassador of the Republic of Italy in the Republic of Croatia (tbc), H.E. Paul Vandoren, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Croatia, H.E. Kieran Dowling, Ambassador of Ireland in the Republic of Croatia, and Ivan Jakovčić, President of the Region of Istria.

Ouverture du Centre pour coopération européenne et international à bale/Valle (Croatie), le 9 mai 2013
La cérémonie d’ouverture du Centre pour la coopération européenne et internationale a eu lieu le 9 mai 2013 à bale/Valle (Istrie, Croatie). L’inauguration du Centre faisait partie de la célébration de la Semaine européenne 2013 en Istrie, et il représente une étape très importante avant l’adhésion de la Croatie à l’Union européenne. Le Centre est financé dans le cadre du projet Adri Gov. Les activités principales du Centre relèveront du domaine de l’éducation et de l’information sur les programmes et les projets européens, du développement régional et du processus d’intégration européenne dans le territoire adriatique et ionien. Le Centre s’impliquera dans des activités de préparation et de mise en œuvre des projets européens, recherche et développement. Il envisage des coopérations avec l’Université de Juraj Dobrila de Pula, l’ALDA et les partenaires du projet AdriGov.
Depuis des années, la Région d’Istrie a été activement inclue aux projets européens de même que dans des coopérations bilatérales et multilatérales contribuant ainsi à l’adhésion de la Croatie à l’Union européenne. Un des objectifs principaux du Centre est le partage de savoir-faire dans les pays de l’Europe du Sud-Est durant les futures accessions européennes.
A cette occasion, M. Edi Pastrovicchio, Maire de la municipalité de Bale/Valle, M. Oriano Otocan, Directeur de la coopération internationale et d’intégration européenne de la région d’Istrie et Président de d’ALDA, Pr. Rober Matijašić, recteur de l’Université de Juraj Dobrila à Pula, S.E.M. Paul Vandoren, chef de la délégation de l’Union européenne auprès de la République de Croatie, S.E.M. Kieran Dowling, ambassadeur de l’Irlande en Croatie et M. Ivan Jakovčić, président de la Région d’Istrie ont souhaité la bienvenue aux participants.

La cerimonia di apertura del centro per la cooperazione Europea e internazionale si è tenuta il 9 Maggio alle ore 12 a Bale / Valle (Istria, Croazia). L’inaugurazione del Centro rientrava nel calendario di attività in programma per la Settimana Europea 2013 in Istria ed ha rappresentato un momento importante in previsione dell’accesso della Croazia in Europa. Il centro è finanziato attraverso il progetto AdriGov.
Il centro si occuperà di formazione e informazione sui programmi e progetti europei, dello sviluppo regionale e dei processi di integrazione europea per il settore pubblico, privato e civile nell’area adriatico – ionica. Il centro si occuperà inoltre della preparazione e implementazione di progetti europei e di ricerca e sviluppo in collaborazione con l’Università di Juraj Dobrila a Pola, l’Associazione delle Agenzie della Democrazia Locale e i partner AdriGov.
Da molti anni a questa parte la Regione Istriana è stata attivamente impegnata nella progettazione europea e nella cooperazione multilaterale contribuendo cosi all’accesso del paese all’Unione Europea. Uno degli obiettivi importanti per il centro è trasferimento di competenze tecniche ai territori del Sud Est europeo in vista dei futuri processi di integrazione europea.L’incontro si è aperto con gli interventi di Edi Pastrovicchio, Sindaco di Bale/Valle, Oriano Otočan, Capo dipartimento Cooperazione internazionale e integrazione europea e Presidente di ALDA, Robert Matijašić, rettore dell’Università di Juraj Dobrila a Pula, H.E. Церемония открытия Центра ЕС и международного сотрудничества состоялась в 12:00 в четверг, 9 мая 2013 года, в Бале/Валле (Истрия, Хорватия).Торжественное открытие Центра было частью празднования в 2013 году Европейской Недели в Истрии и явилось очень важным этапом перед вступлением Хорватии в ЕС. Центр финансируется в рамках проекта Adri Gov.
Основными видами деятельности Центра будут область образования и предоставление информации о программах и проектах ЕС, региональное развитие и процессы интеграции в ЕС для общественного, частного и гражданского сектора территории, прилегающей к Адриатическому и Ионическому морям. Центр также будет заниматься подготовкой и реализацией проектов ЕС, научными исследованиями и разработками совместно с Университетом имени Юрая Добрилы в г. Пула, Ассоциацией агентств местной демократии и партнерами по проекту AdriGov.
Истрийская жупания уже многие годы принимает активное участие в проектах ЕС, а также в двустороннем и многостороннем сотрудничестве, содействуя вступлению страны в Европейский Союз. Одной их важнейших задач Центра является также передача ноу-хау более широкой территории Юго-Восточной Европы в ходе будущих процессов интеграции в ЕС.

16th VIT local event in Vejle (Denmark) on 22 and 23 May
On 22th and 23th May 2013, The Municipality of Vejle (Denmark) will organize an international workshop in Vejle. This event will focus on volunteering and local community work. For more information, please consult the agenda.
This workshop will be the 16th local event organized within the framework of the project Very Important Twinning, Volunteering in Town (VIT) led by ALDA.
This event is open to all and is free of registration. Accomodation and board can be provided.
