ADRIGOV project: ALDA offers its experience for a training on active European citizenship

In the framework of the ADRIGOV project, funded by the IPA-Adriatic Cross-border Cooperation Programme, INFORMEST, in collaboration with ALDA – the European Association for Local Democracy, organised on 16th December a training day on the topic of active European citizenship.

The workshop was opened by the words of welcome and greetings of Vanessa Sanson, Informest, Antonina Dattolo, Professor at the University of Udine, and Roberto Sartori, Vice Mayor of Gorizia, who stressed the importance of the concept of active participation of citizens, although it is often little known.

The workshop, curated by Marco Boaria, Head of Resources and Development Unit of ALDA, and Aldo Xhani, Active Citizenship Coordinator of ALDA, saw the alternation of theoretical and practical sessions focused on the theme of active citizenship, with particular attention to funding programmes, tools and methods to promote it, examples of good practices and projects implemented by ALDA over the years.

The afternoon session was dedicated to the participatory workshop, during which participants designed and presented a hypothetical project proposal, aimed at promoting and strengthening citizens’ participation.

The works ended with the closing greetings of Alessandro Perelli, Vice President of ALDA, who reiterated the importance of active participation of citizens in Europe and the need to work for good local governance.

ADRIGOV PROJECT – The AdriGov project, capitalising on the existing cooperation networks and the different initiatives, programmes and projects already implemented in the area, will constitute an operational support for the political processes linking the Adriatic Euroregion and the Adriatic-Ionian Macroregion, with the aim to offer a valuable contribution to the adoption and elaboration of the Adriatic-Ionian strategy, with particular attention to the promotion of an innovative model of governance through the coordination and integration of local and regional communities. By giving co-operation activities a concrete regional dimension, the project also intends to consolidate the integration process, both among and within states, through the involvement of local authorities and civil society in the decision-making processes and in the implementation of EU regional policy.

Colombelles and Novaci to boost the Normandy-Macedonia relationship

The cooperation between Colombelles and Novaci was officialised in 2016 with the common agreement to work on the topic of Remembrance of the First World War, as well as the development of memorial tourism and raising awareness among the local population of their respective culture and heritage.
As part of the cultural activities of this cooperation, a celebration around the French religious holiday “La Chandeleur” was carried out in Novaci on the 20 February 2018. A presentation of the history of this ancient celebration was made for the pupils of the elementary school “Slavko Lumbarovski” in Novaci. The presentation was followed by a creative workshop for students to learn more about this religious celebration that has pagan sources and a pancake tasting according to the tradition of “La Chandeleur”. As a result, students had the opportunity to learn more about French culture and tradition.
This event is part of the project: “Peace and Remembrance for Europe” which the Municipality of Novaci implements in partnership with the city of Colombelles. Many activities were implemented as part of this project including: research and presentation on the Macedonian front, a historical workshop on the D-day and the Normandy landing. The next event will be the organisation of a workshop in March, the month of Francophonie.
The cooperation between Colombelles and Novaci continues with many activities in 2018.

Youth at the centre of the Cooperation between Normandy and Macedonia

Youth is a priority in the cooperation between Normandy and Macedonia, young people are simultaneously future citizens but also an undeniable potential for the development of the local community.
The Association Maison Pour Tous Léo Lagrange from Normandy and Coalition of youth organisations – SEGA from Macedonia cooperate in the framework of the programme for decentralised cooperation between Normandy and Macedonia since 2016. Their cooperation brought on a lot of significant actions promoting the role of youth in society, Youth Information and their professional advancement.
The most important action implemented by this cooperation in the last years was the opening of the first Youth Info Centres in Macedonia. Two Youth Info Centres “INFO SEGA” were opened in Kavadarci and Prilep.
The current activities implemented are in the field of youth work, mostly unknown to the Macedonian stake holders, through the introduction of the French practice of youth workers. The Coalition of youth organisations – SEGA in partnership with the Association Maison Pour Tous Léo Lagrange organised a training for youth workers entitled “First step to become a youth worker” from 20 to 23 February, in Struga, Macedonia.
The training gathered representatives of the Youth Info centres “INFO SEGA” based in Kavadarci and in Prilep and others organisations in Macedonia who work on the topic of youth and Youth Information. The aim of the training is to train youth workers who will in turn offer a starting module addressed to future youth workers and other organisations and institutions that work with youngsters.
The program for decentralised cooperation between Normandy and Macedonia is coordinated by ALDA since 2007.

ALDA facing social barriers to integration in the CRISCO project framework

On the 5th March 2018, ALDA organized in Strasbourg a local meeting for CRISCO project on the theme of the cultural and social barriers to integration. The CRISCO project aims to foster citizens’ participation in local life and cohesion between citizens in general. The local panel of stakeholders of Strasbourg met to discuss good practices on this topic and share difficulties encountered. The meeting focused on a comparison between German’s and French’s ways to manage these barriers and to welcome migrants and refugees.

Two speakers were invited to share their experience: Mr. Dieter Eckert, lawyer, ex-first deputy mayor of Offenburg, local counselor of the Ortenau Land, who introduced German’s methods to overcome social and cultural barriers to migrants and refugees’ integration, and Mr. David Robert, Chief Executive at SINGA France, an NGO dedicated to create bonds between refugees and their host society, by providing housing and organizing common activities with newcomers and locals. On the 14th of March, 4 persons from the local panel of stakeholders from Strasbourg will go to Bassano, Italy, for the first CRISCO’s transnational event, to exchange about social barriers to integration, share experiences and good practices with the 10 European partner cities.
