After the establishment of a Local Democracy Agency in the city of Kairouan, Tunisia back in 2017, ALDA has been able to establish itself quickly in the region and consequently continue its progress in the area also with the opening of yet another LDA, this time in Northern Morocco.

The opening of the LDA Tunisia has been an important step for decentralised cooperation in the Mediterranean and has reinforced the numerous efforts undertaken by the Tunisian actors and their European partners in favor of local democracy in Tunisia. It has furthermore acted to support the participative processes within the decision-making process at the local level, helped the local authorities to operate in an open manner and encouraged them to take into account the needs of citizens.

All these activities of the past two years have granted many opportunities and occasions to put the LDA and ALDA in general in the region’s spotlight. This is why, as a reward for the work done so far, ALDA has managed to join the PCPA – Programme Concerté Pluri-Acteurs “Soyons Actifs/Actives”! A network which engages the most relevant French and Tunisian actors working in Tunisia to reduce inequalities in access to rights, including associations, trade unions, cooperatives, local and public authorities.
With the support of this programme, ALDA will enhance further its activities in Tunisia and deepen its engagement in promoting good governance and local democracy for the benefit of the citizens. One for all, all for one!
