Within the framework of programme “Discover Europe with ALDA”, on 12 April our Brussels office welcomed a delegation from the University of Malta to debate on good governance and European Active Citizenship. The meeting was an opportunity to illustrate the work of ALDA and our Local Democracy Agenciess in the EU and its Neighbourhood, and to exchange knowledge between academics and practitioners.

The activity is also part of ALDA’s initiative to collect opinions, ideas and views on the “Future of Europe” both from experts and ordinary citizens. Moreover, participants had the opportunity of getting to know more about the Europe for Citizens programme, as a funding instrument that supports community actions. Aldo Xhani, Coordinator of the Citizenship programme, invited participants to join the campaign “Europe for citizens – One programme, 500 million voices“. This campaign reinforces Europe for Citizens programme, as one of the key tools to contribute to the European project via a bottom-up approach and to tackle Euroscepticism across the continent.

Gender equality and youth were the main policy areas debated. Participants reflected on how synergies could be developed between the action of the University and specific projects that ALDA is currently implementing, such as URGENT and YouthMetre.
