For several years, the city of Caen, capital of the French Region of Lower Normandy, and the city of Ohrid in Macedonia, maintain a town twining cooperation in the framework of the Decentralised cooperation between the Lower Normandy region and the Republic of Macedonia. Both cities had the opportunity to deepen their relations during a study visit in Macedonia from January 15 to 21.
Mayor of Ohrid, M. Aleksandar Petreski, welcomed the French delegation led by deputy mayor of the city of Caen, M. Jean Notari.
The local governance representatives from both cities discussed the reinforcement of the cooperation in various fields, especially in tourism, culture, art and urban planning, which led to several meetings between experts of these areas.
The guests from Caen also visited the historical and cultural sites of Ohrid, and had the opportunity to attend the traditional celebration of Epiphany by the Ohrid Lake.
Town twinning as a segment in the Decentralised cooperation between Lower Normandy and Macedonia builds up contacts and friendship with communities from the two territories and promotes better understanding.
