
The conference „Nothing about us without us! Youth unemployment – Local solutions for global problem“ will take place on 23 April at 10:00 at the Town all of Sisak, in Rimska 26.
Organised by the Local Democracy Agency – Operational Partner Sisak, the Town of Sisak and the Association of Local Democracy Agencies, the event is part of the project „Active citizens combating youth unemployment“ in which Local Democracy Agency Sisak is the partner of the Carpathi, an Foundation Hungary, and is implementing in 6 European countries (Croatia, Hungary, Slovakia, Germany, Czech Republic and Latvia).
We invite all those interested to attend the conference, which will have among the keynote speakers Mrs Paula Razan, Delegate of the LDA – OP Sisak, the President of ALDA Mr Oriano Otocan, and the Croatian Member of the European Parliament Mr Tonino Picula.
A comparative audiovisual research on youth unemployment problem was carried out in all 6 countries during the project, involving unemployed and employed youngsters aged 16-24, public sector, private sector and non-governmental organisations. The research in Croatia was focused on 3 towns (Sisak, Petrinja and Kutina) and it gathered 370 examinees by questionnaires and 26 by video interviews. During this conference we will present main findings of the research and gathered recommendations for each target group.
Youth unemployment affects the whole European Union, therefore it is necessary to involve citizens to tackle the issue. How ordinary citizens can contribute and influence decisions at the European Union level is also a key topic of this conference as well. Electing Croatian representatives in the European Parliament at the elections taking place on the 25 May 2014 is one of the ways. Why it is important to vote at the elections, how can Croatian MEPs influence decisions of the Parliament, and what is the concrete plan of the EU in combating youth unemployment, and how it reflects Croatian citizens, will be discussed by the Croatian MEP Mr. Tonino Picula.
