On 20-22 November, the Re.Cri.Re. consortium met for the fourth General Assembly of the project in Berlin, Germany, to discuss the outcomes and the joint work for the last few months of the project.

The meeting was hosted in the Bundestag, the German Parliament, and involved also a public seminar with Members of Parliament, a great feedback opportunity for all partners.
Re.Cri.Re. (Between the representation of the crisis and the crisis of representation) is an H2020 project gathering together 16 partners from 12 different countries to discuss about the socio-economic effects of the crisis on the representations of cultures as well as on the policies in the nowadays European societies. The project involves researchers and civil society organisations with the aim of framing better policies at the local, national, and European level.

The three-days event was an occasion to meet again face-to-face and to debate about ethical issues, difficulties in relationships with local policy-makers, and other important issues. On the other hand, the Assembly created the possibility to exchange ideas and suggestions for the upgrade of the Guidelines for policy-makers, which is the main deliverable of the project. The partners cooperated at the development of a questionnaire and a format to collect data, which will be used as common tools allowing them to compare and evaluate the different information collected in the various countries.

The agenda foresaw also a public seminar with some guests from four parties of the German Parliament, titled “Policy-making in times of crisis: populism and identity in Europe”. It constituted a crucial moment to discuss insights and outcomes of the project with the policy-makers, who lengthy exchanged and debated with partners. This was the first time that policy makers of these parties discuss in a common panel on such an important issue with scientists: yet another sign that the Re.Cri.Re. project is developing key outcomes for contemporary Europe, and that the guidelines to be produced will be a great tool for policy-makers willing to discover more about culture and social identities’ influence.
