In the framework of the relaunching process of the Local Democracy Agency Albania, Aldo Xhani, Coordinator of the Citizenship Programme, attended the European Straits Initiative (ESI) event, taking place on 8th October in Vlora (Albania).

The meeting represented an opportunity to liaise with regional and local authorities from across Europe interested in developing forms of decentralised cooperation with the Vlora community in the sector of good local governance and citizen participation. LDA Albania will constitute the strategic platform to structurally develop such cooperation. In this context, a trilateral meeting will be taking place on 9th October among Pas-de-Calais County Council, the Region of Vlora and ALDA in order to discuss concrete opportunities of cooperation with the technical support of LDA Albania. The decentralised cooperation programme between Lower Normandie and Macedonia, managed by ALDA Skopje, will be showcased as good practice to be replicated in Vlora.

The meeting represents a further step towards the official launching of LDA Albania on 24th October. Representatives of international organizations, embassies, national institutions as well as regional and local authorities from Albania and the EU will gather together and debate about the achievements and challenges along Albania’s EU integration path as well as successful practices to promoting local democracy and citizen participation.
