During the event, youngsters learned the general context, historical and geographical aspects of the War and then analysed maps, pictures, videos, official and political communication during that time. They discussed various ways to decode and interpret messages transmitted through the visual media. Taking it further, the youngsters were invited to talk about peace, conflict prevention and particularly the role of Youth in the Reconciliation process. Finally, during an interactive exercise they described their perfect society as the place where there is more tolerance, peace and justice for all.
In the evening, young people were invited to watch the documentary «Battle of the Somme», from the perspective of the British army, filmed in 1916 during the Great War. They prolonged it by a discussion on Saturday morning, exchanging their impressions and understanding of the film.
The training continued on the mountain Pelister, overlooking the city of Bitola (located in the heart of the battles), where the group had the opportunity to visit and document the remainders of the German trenches of the Eastern Front line. The training was concluded by presentation of the photography collection of Manaki Brothers, the first photographers of the Balkan Region. It brought a testimony of army and civilian daily life during the conflict, and the visual memory of the Great War.
