From 4th to 6th November 2025, Senegal hosted the 6th International Forum on Participatory Democracy in Africa (FIDEPA06) in its capital city, Dakar.
The event, which is organised every year in a different country of the African continent, aims at promoting a vast community of knowledge, exchanging experiences and sharing good practices to build a resilient participatory democracy.
For this purpose, the annual initiative puts all its attention first and foremost to citizens, working year by year to adopt decentralised reforms aimed at bringing public action closer to the civil society, which is the main target in a democratic society.
Yet, since 2015, the international community has adopted different agendas for the future of the world […]. In 2013, Africa had adopted “Agenda 2063, the Africa we want”, which places people at the center of all efforts on the continent to ensure their participation in the transformation and building of more inclusive societies (International Observatory of Participatory Democracy in Africa).
ALDA already joined the Forum in 2024, on the occasion of its 5th edition in Benin.
As a result of a successful experience, our delegation participated also in this year’s edition in Dakar, whose theme was “From Resilience to Sovereignty: Roles of Cities, Territories and Actors in Africa”.
The objective was reflecting on how local, small but concrete, actions can actually have an impact to consolidate a democratic system.
In this framework, much attention has also been given to the economic and digital aspects involved in the issue to understand:
- How financial accountability of African territories can be promoted;
- How to manage data to better connect people, cities and territories.
Here, again, the attention to citizens is strongly highlighted.
ALDA’s team in Dakar was formed by Antonella Valmorbida, Secretary General, Abdelaziz Bouslah, Africa Project Officer, and Faty Babou, Grant Manager WYDE Civic Engagement.
It was once again a unique opportunity to meet in person and discuss with key local figures – stakeholders, organisations, members of the civil society – to improve our already existing connection and cooperation with the continent.
In this regard, ALDA reaffirmed its commitment to support FIDEPA’s goal to strengthen the accountability and capacity of cities and territories, thus contributing to the sovereignty of African states.
ALDA participe à la plus grande rencontre sur la démocratie participative en Afrique
Du 4 au 6 novembre 2025, le Sénégal a accueilli le 6ème Forum International de la Démocratie Participative en Afrique (FIDEPA06) dans sa capitale, Dakar.
Cet événement, organisé chaque année dans un pays différent du continent africain, vise à promouvoir une vaste communauté de connaissances, à échanger des expériences et à partager les bonnes pratiques afin de construire une démocratie participative résiliente.
À cette fin, l’initiative annuelle porte toute son attention en premier lieu sur les citoyens, travaillant année après année à l’adoption de réformes décentralisées visant à renforcer la proximité entre l’action publique et la société civile, qui est la principale cible dans une société démocratique.

ALDA avait déjà participé au Forum en 2024, à l’occasion de sa 5ème édition organisée au Bénin.
Fort de cette expérience positive, notre délégation a également participé à l’édition de cette année à Dakar, dont le thème était « De la résilience à la souveraineté : rôles des villes, territoires et acteurs en Afrique ».
L’objectif était de réfléchir à la manière dont des actions locales, modestes mais concrètes, peuvent réellement avoir un impact pour consolider un système démocratique.
Dans ce cadre, une grande attention a également été accordée aux aspects économiques et technologiques liés à cette question afin de comprendre :
- Comment promouvoir la responsabilité financière des territoires africains ;
- Comment gérer les données pour mieux connecter les personnes, les villes et les territoires.
Ici encore, l’attention portée aux citoyens est fortement soulignée.
L’équipe d’ALDA à Dakar était composée d’Antonella Valmorbida, secrétaire générale, d’Abdelaziz Bouslah, chargé de projet pour l’Afrique, et de Faty Babou, responsable des subventions WYDE Civic Engagement.
Cela a été une occasion unique de rencontrer en personne et de discuter avec des personnalités locales clés – organisations, membres de la société civile – afin de consolider nos liens et notre coopération avec le continent.
À cet égard, l’ALDA a réaffirmé son engagement à soutenir l’objectif de la FIDEPA visant à renforcer la responsabilité et les capacités des villes et des territoires, contribuant ainsi à la souveraineté des États africains.
