ALDA est une organisation unique basée sur l'adhésion au niveau européen. Nous pensons que la coopération entre les autorités locales et régionales et les organisations de la société civile est essentielle pour créer une démocratie locale solide et promouvoir la participation des citoyens au niveau communautaire.
L'ALDA renforce le travail conjoint et les synergies entre les gouvernements locaux et la société civile organisée, afin de promouvoir et d'améliorer l'échange de bonnes pratiques dans le domaine de la gouvernance locale et la participation active des citoyens.
Le réseau de l'ALDA s'agrandit d'année en année, reflétant ainsi la valeur ajoutée de l'adhésion, ainsi que la coopération fructueuse et l'enrichissement découlant de l'échange entre nos membres venant de contextes différents.

ALDA coordinates and supports the network of 15 Local Democracy Agencies (LDAs) in their activities. Initiated by the Council of Europe in the early ‘90s, the LDAs represent a unique and successful experiment of democratic support, with full engagement of local governments and civil society organisations from Europe and the neighboring countries.
The LDAs are locally-based organisations, funded and supported by both local partners and international associates with a long-term joint programme providing financial and political support to fulfil their mandate and to accompany local democracy and civil society empowerment. Indeed, partnership-building is a crucial aspect for each LDA, as their work is based on the innovative method of multilateral decentralised cooperation. The LDAs are also operational in the field of city diplomacy.
Avec l'adhésion de la Croatie à l'Union européenne en juillet 2013, les trois anciennes agences de la démocratie locale du pays sont devenues des partenaires opérationnels (PO) de l'ALDA.
On a yearly basis, the LDAs receive from ALDA’s Governing Board* , the label of the LDA after assessment of their report of activities* actions plans, partnership support and sustainability.
In 2019, the LDAs of the Balkans together with ALDA have created the Balkan Network for Local Democracy* operating at the regional level for European integration, decentralisation and good local governance.
The LDAs are located in the Western Balkans and in the East and South Neighborhood of Europe. The Strategy of ALDA 2021-2024* wants to open the geographic scope of the Agencies with a potential scouting in other parts of the world in need of support to decentralization and citizens engagement (see European Support To Local Democracy* )
The development of the LDAs programme in 2021 is looking at the sub-Saharan Africa, Lebanon, Algeria and Turkey.

L'ALDA n'est pas seulement une association centrée sur des activités menées en coopération avec ses membres et partenaires.
Chez ALDA, nous sommes conscients que la collaboration est une valeur qui doit être poursuivie à la fois en interne et en externe, raison pour laquelle ALDA coopère avec un nombre important et en constante augmentation d'institutions et d'organisations, afin d'échanger les bonnes pratiques, de pérenniser l'implication des communautés dans les processus décisionnels, et ainsi se diriger ensemble vers une société meilleure.
Pour parvenir à une telle autonomisation des communautés locales, ALDA a une forte composante de plaidoyer, étant membre, partenaire, observateur et supporter de plusieurs réseaux, institutions et organisations.
