The Association “Embassy of Local Democracy in Zavidovici” was founded in 1996. At the base of the project, there is the spontaneous initiative of a group of pacifists gathered in the Brescian Coordination Solidarity Initiatives that in 1992, at the time of the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, began to carry out relief and humanitarian aid operations for the civilian population, and at the same time to receive refugees and displaced persons in Italy. Transformed into a Social Enterprise from January 2014 maintaining the title of a non-profit organization, the association carries out its activities in Italy, mainly in the territories of Brescia, Alba and Cremona through the territorial coordination of members and in South-East Europe, particularly in Bosnia and Herzegovina in Zavidovici. Since 2009 it has been the managing body of the SPRAR (Protection System for Asylum Seekers and Refugees) projects of the Ministry of the Interior activated in different years by the municipalities Brescia, Cellatica, Calvisano, Passirano and Collebeato.
