Europe for Citizens Programme | 16 |
The project stems from the Treaty of Rome’s 60th anniversary and was implemented by a network of international partners coming from sixteen different countries in Europe.
In recent years, Euroscepticism has been raising all over Europe and BREXIT was an example of this! Consequently, the WISE project primarily focused on promoting democratic engagement and active citizenship at the local level in order to guide citizens to understand the importance of belonging to the EU. It also promoted the necessity of European citizens of participating in the union policy-making debates. What were the actions taken? Through a non-formal and creative methodology, partners improved European citizens’ awareness of the EU system.
- Contributing the citizens’ understanding of the Union, its history, and diversity;
- Raising awareness of remembrance, common values, and history and the Union’s aim that is to promote peace;
- Encouraging democratic and civic participation at Union’s level, by developing citizen’s understanding of the Union policy-making process and promoting societal and intercultural engagement and volunteering at the European level;
- Combatting stigmatization of immigrants and building counter narratives to foster intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding;
- Debating on the future of Europe.
