Merefa city territorial community was constituted on March 29, 2016, by consolidation of Merefa City Council and Utkivka Village Council of Kharkiv region, Kharkiv district. At 2020, as a result of changes in the administrative and territorial structure of Ukraine, a part of the Yakovlivka village council of the Kharkiv district, Kharkiv region, consisting of the villages Yakovlivka and Oleksandrivka, was joined to community. Total resident population, as of January 25, 2024 is 24 325 people, an area of 132.41 square kilometres.
