In an exciting development for local democracy and community empowerment, ALDA is thrilled to announce the inauguration of the new Local Democracy Agency (LDA) in Edremit, Türkiye.

Within the framework of the International Conference on “A Wider European Community: The Importance of Local Governance” held in Skopje on October 19 and 20, 2023, a compelling panel discussion focused on the European Label for Governance Excellence (EloGE) took place on October 20.

The remarkable journey of Local Democracy Agencies (LDAs) spanning three decades was celebrated under the theme “A Successful Story from Conflict Aftermath Toward Europe” as part of the International Conference on “A Wider European Community: The Importance of Local Governance.”

ALDA’s Vice-President, Mrs. Natasa Vuckovic, and Governing Board member, Dobrica Milovanovic, held a productive meeting with the Mayor of Karpos Municipality, Stevco Jakimovski, on the 18th of October.

On the 18th of October 2023, the ALDA Governing Board convened in Skopje for a pivotal and highly productive meeting.

In a dedicated effort to celebrate three decades of Local Democracy Agencies (LDAs) in the Balkans, LDA Mostar brought together representatives from ALDA, the Balkan LDAs, and organisations committed to advancing local democracy in the Western Balkans.

On 19 and 20 October, 2023, ALDA hosted in Skopje the international conference “A Wider European Community: The Importance of Local Governance – Roadmap for the Western Balkans, Moldova, and Ukraine on the Path to EU Accession.”

On 13 October 2023, ALDA Governing Board came online to approve new members and discuss the partnership opportunities that could be fulfilled in the field of local democracy and citizens’ participation.

ALDA firmly believes in the importance of local democracy, a principle that lies at the core of our mission. That’s why we’re excited to take part in the European Local Democracy Week (ELDW).

This programme is organised in the framework of our project WE ACT (“Women Empowerment and ACTion in Politics and Media”), funded by the European Union.

This significant gathering provides a distinct platform for professionals and organisations to converge and deliberate on vital matters, including democracy, citizen engagement, and sustainable development. 

The call for proposals received an astounding response, with over 780 applications flooding in.

During the Solidarity Week, on Tuesday, October 3rd, ALDA had the pleasure of participating in the First European Volunteering Festival, an extraordinary event held at the Loggia del Capitaniato in Vicenza’s Piazza dei Signori (Italy) and organised by the Volunteering Service Center of the Province of Vicenza (CSV). 

At ALDA, we are deeply saddened by the recent catastrophic floods that have struck Libya.

In a world where democracy, freedom, and human rights are constantly under scrutiny, organisations like ALDA play a crucial role in promoting democratic values. Mayor Ms. Aleksandra Dulkiewicz of Gdańsk(ALDA Member), who also chairs the CoR Working Group for Ukraine, recently emphasised the significance of such organisations during the 12th CORLEAP Annual Meeting held in Batumi, Georgia, on September 7, 2023.
