ALDA works in the Western Balkans and in the European Neighbourhood – Mediterranean area, Eastern Europe, and Southern Caucasus – to foster good governance, citizen participation, European integration, and decentralization.
It coordinates and supports the network of 11 Local Democracy Agencies and 3 Operational Partners in their activities. Most of the Local Democracy Agencies are located in the Western Balkans, but ALDA is becoming more and more active in the European Neighbourhood. In 2006 it expanded its network to Southern Caucasus. ALDA is now working towards the opening of 3 new Local Democracy Agencies: in Odessa, Ukraine; in Moldova and in Tunisia.
ALDA is also leading several projects and developing partnerships in other European Neighbourhood countries, including Belarus, Azerbaijan, Morocco, and Turkey.
The European Association for Local Democracy is a non-governmental organisation dedicated to the promotion of good governance and citizen participation at the local level. ALDA focuses on activities that facilitate cooperation between local authorities and civil society.
On the 15 of March, Skopje was hosting a unique exhibition on the topic of the First World War. What made the exhibition unique is the fact that all the artists were high school students, who were part of ALDA Skopje project, “First World War and youth – peace and reconciliation”.

ALDA Secretary General, Antonella Valmorbida with the consortium of AETS implemented the programme that supports “Participative Democracy and Citizens Participation at the local level in Algeria”, with support of the European Commission and the Ministry of Interior and Local Authorities of Algeria.Read more

ALDA believes that Cultural Heritage is an opportunity for Improving Civic Engagement. This motto drives our coalition project “CHOICE” which is implemented in four countries of Eastern Partnership – Armenia, Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine.Read more
On 23 February, LDA Georgia hosted Eastern Partnership Civil Society forum Georgian National Platform (EAP) coordinating a council meeting in Kutaisi. The coordination council meeting was focused on European integration and on the general objectives and tasks of the National Platform.Read more
