ALDA works in the Western Balkans and in the European Neighbourhood – Mediterranean area, Eastern Europe, and Southern Caucasus – to foster good governance, citizen participation, European integration, and decentralization.
It coordinates and supports the network of 11 Local Democracy Agencies and 3 Operational Partners in their activities. Most of the Local Democracy Agencies are located in the Western Balkans, but ALDA is becoming more and more active in the European Neighbourhood. In 2006 it expanded its network to Southern Caucasus. ALDA is now working towards the opening of 3 new Local Democracy Agencies: in Odessa, Ukraine; in Moldova and in Tunisia.
ALDA is also leading several projects and developing partnerships in other European Neighbourhood countries, including Belarus, Azerbaijan, Morocco, and Turkey.
The European Association for Local Democracy is a non-governmental organisation dedicated to the promotion of good governance and citizen participation at the local level. ALDA focuses on activities that facilitate cooperation between local authorities and civil society.
On November 29, 2018, in the village of Brod, for the commemoration ceremony of the 100 years of the end of the First World War, the Municipality of Novaci revealed a monument dedicated for the soldiers and civilians who perished on the front in Macedonia.Read more

The Association “Following the footsteps of Albert Londres” accomplished its fifth traveling seminar “Following the footsteps of Albert Londres”, organised from 10 to 25 November 2018. This edition included young reporters from the Balkans and South-East Europe researching in the region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes on the topic: “Natural, cultural, gastronomic, historic and industrial heritage: an asset for territorial development!”.Read more
For the past six months 12 sub-grantees of the project "CSOs for making local democracy work" have been actively implementing their projects in liaison with Macedonian local authorities.Read more
ALDA Skopje is implementing the project "Perfecting the structure for good internal management in ALDA Skopje" as part of the grant scheme of the program "Sustainable Civil Society - State Financing of CSOs" implemented by the Macedonian Center for International Cooperation in partnership with the Balkan Civil Society Development Network (BCSDN) and the Center for Information, Cooperation and Development of Civil Society Organizations (CNVOS) from Slovenia, and financially supported by the European Union.Read more
