ALDA works in the European Union promoting active European citizenship, in tight cooperation with local authorities, civil society networks, and European institutions.
The activities of ALDA help raising citizens' understanding and sense of belonging to the European Union, and stimulate intercultural dialogue and civic participation.
By conducting its own and its members' projects, as well as through lobbying activities, ALDA fosters citizen participation and local democracy on four main pillars: citizenship, culture, education and volunteering; social issues; youth empowerment and employment; health and environment.
The European Association for Local Democracy is a non-governmental organisation dedicated to the promotion of good governance and citizen participation at the local level. ALDA focuses on activities that facilitate cooperation between local authorities and civil society.
On the weekend of 10-12 June, in the framework of the Local Economic Forum, yearly organised by the Findhorn Foundation in Scotland, ALDA partnered up with CDP - Driving Sustainable Economies and the Findhorn Foundation to bring together experts, academics and practitioners from all around the world to share ideas about democracy and citizens participation. The Forum was a unique opportunity to reflect and propose new ideas and views on how to revive democracy by putting the community at the centre of the action.Read more
The 5th Assises of Decentralised Cooperation for Development will take place in Brussels on 10 and 11 July 2017 at the European Committee of the Regions (Rue Belliard 99-101, 1040 Bruxelles, Belgium), a two-day programme with the participation of ALDA, through her Secretary General Antonella Valmorbida, and its LADDER Project.Read more
In April 2017, the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker presented a White Paper on the Future of Europe, including 5 possible scenarios for discussion at European and Member State levels. The CSOs’ alliance SDG Watch Europe in collaboration with Friends of the Earth Europe has developed an alternative "Scenario 6: Sustainable Europe for its citizens", which focuses on a more Sustainable and Fairer Europe.Read more

Hosted by the Region of Kuiavia and Pomerania, the Tool Fair of the project LADDER will take place on 10-11 May, gathering national and international stakeholders working in the field of development education.
The partners of the project WE-NET, representing a consortium of 12 communities across Europe led by the City of Thiene, reunited from 2 to 5 May in Apulia Region for the final international activity of a two-year process launched in 2015. More than 40 participants had the opportunity to exchange knowledge, experience and good practice on the topic of circular economy and plan testing activities at the local level.Read more
