EPD Annual Conference 2026

EPD Annual Conference 2026

On 9 June 2026, the European Partnership for Democracy (EPD) will host its Annual Conference 2026 in Brussels, bringing together policymakers, civil society organisations and democracy practitioners from across Europe and beyond.

In a context where democratic systems are increasingly under pressure, the conference will explore how to strengthen democratic resilience, governance and public trust. While democracy remains the only political system capable of safeguarding fundamental rights through the rule of law, its effectiveness depends on citizens’ confidence in institutions and decision-making processes.

The event will provide a space to reflect on the current state of democracy and to identify practical ways to reinforce trust, participation and accountability.

EPD, as a community of practice bringing together organisations working on democracy support, will facilitate discussions aimed at improving cooperation and strengthening collective action in this field.

ALDA, as a member of the European Partnership for Democracy and part of its Board, will take part in the conference and contribute to ongoing efforts to promote democratic governance and civic engagement.

Among the featured speakers, Antonella Valmorbida, Secretary General of ALDA, will contribute to the breakout session “Democracy in Crisis: Representation or Delivery?”. The discussion will explore whether current democratic challenges stem primarily from a growing gap between citizens and their representatives or from declining trust in governments’ ability to deliver effective public services. Drawing on ALDA’s experience in participatory governance and local democracy, Antonella will reflect on the added value of the local level in strengthening democratic legitimacy and improving service delivery
