ProVote voter turnout workshop

ProVote Workshop – The Role of Provinces in Promoting Voter Turnout

On 30 June 2026, the Region of Hannover will host the workshop “The Role of Provinces in Promoting Voter Turnout”, organised within the framework of the ProVote Project.

The event will bring together local and regional authorities, civil society organisations, researchers and democracy practitioners to discuss how public institutions can encourage electoral participation and strengthen democratic engagement at local level.

At a time when many democracies face declining voter turnout and growing political disengagement, the workshop will explore innovative approaches to making democratic participation more accessible, inclusive and representative. Particular attention will be given to the participation of young people, persons facing accessibility barriers and communities with migrant backgrounds.

The programme will feature keynote contributions from experts in democratic participation, accessibility and community engagement, followed by interactive workshops examining successful local initiatives that help increase voter turnout and civic involvement.

Participants will have the opportunity to exchange experiences, discuss practical solutions and identify recommendations for local and regional authorities seeking to strengthen democratic participation across Europe.

The workshop forms part of the ProVote Project, which promotes the engagement and participation of young people, women and marginalised groups in democratic processes and elections.
