On 15 April 2025, ALDA Italia officially took part in the meeting of the National Forum for Sustainable Development, held in Rome at the headquarters of the Italian Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security. This milestone follows the formal registration of ALDA Italia as a member of the Forum—a key national platform designed to support and contribute to the implementation of Italy’s National Strategy for Sustainable Development (SNSvS).

The meeting represented a significant opportunity to take stock of Italy’s progress in achieving the United Nations 2030 Agenda goals and to outline the next strategic steps in this critical journey. Among the central topics discussed were the revision of the National Strategy for Sustainable Development and the upcoming update of the Voluntary National Review (VNR), which Italy will submit to the United Nations.

As the country advances its commitments toward sustainability, the inclusive involvement of stakeholders—public institutions, civil society organisations, and networks such as ALDA—is not only necessary but essential. The Forum, established as a participatory space for dialogue and coordination, is structured around thematic working groups, which play a fundamental role in shaping Italy’s sustainability strategy.

ALDA Italia has proudly formalised its participation in six of these thematic groups, aligning with key priorities that reflect the association’s long-standing values and areas of action:

  • Planet
  • People
  • Prosperity
  • Peace
  • Culture for Sustainability
  • Youth for Sustainability

Each of these working groups represents a pillar of sustainable development. ALDA Italia’s engagement across them underscores a holistic and integrated approach to supporting a just, inclusive, and widespread transition to sustainability at both national and local levels. Whether addressing climate resilience, human rights, civic engagement, or social cohesion, ALDA brings to the Forum its expertise in local democracy, participatory governance, and community empowerment, developed over decades of experience across Europe and its neighbourhood.

Participating in the National Forum for Sustainable Development is a strategic step for ALDA Italia. It allows us to contribute concretely to shaping public policy on sustainability, while ensuring that the voice of local communities and civil society is heard loud and clear. The 2030 Agenda is not just a list of goals—it’s a collective commitment, and every actor must play its part.

Moving forward, ALDA Italia will actively contribute to the Forum’s working groups, providing insights, participating in consultations, and supporting efforts to monitor, implement, and improve Italy’s sustainability roadmap. Through this engagement, ALDA reaffirms its role as a bridge between local realities and national decision-making, advocating for policies that are not only ambitious but also grounded in participation, equity, and local ownership.

As sustainability becomes an increasingly central pillar of public policy, platforms like the National Forum—and the collaboration it fosters—will be key to ensuring that Italy’s transition is not only green, but democratic and inclusive.
