FIC-FIGHTERS Citizen Engagement 2025

Citizen Engagement Event in Veles, North Macedonia – Voices for Change

On 24 September 2025, ALDA will host the Citizen Engagement Event “Voices for Change” in Veles, North Macedonia, within the framework of the EU-funded FIC-FIGHTERS project.

Held at Europe House Veles, this participatory workshop focuses on one of the project’s pilot case studies and aims to collect community perspectives on the transformation of local phosphogypsum (PG) stacks into sustainable and circular assets for urban regeneration.

The FIC-FIGHTERS Citizen Engagement Event in Veles 2025 will:

  • Offer space for residents to reflect on the environmental and social impacts of the PG site

  • Explore how the area could evolve over the next 15 years

  • Identify local risks, aspirations, and ideas for sustainable redevelopment

Participants will take part in collaborative exercises, co-developing scenarios for future use, and discussing their vision for the territory. While the event is research-driven and not designed for immediate policy decisions, the data and reflections collected will be analysed by academic partners and contribute to the project’s broader research outputs on circularity, governance, and community resilience.

This is a key step in ensuring that local voices shape the future of post-industrial regeneration in Veles and beyond.
