SpeakUP Webinar – From Awareness to Action: Using Debate to Mobilise Youth around Civic Issues

On 10 November 2025, the SpeakUP Webinar on Youth Debate will take place online, offering an inspiring space for youth workers, educators, and NGO representatives to explore how structured debate can strengthen civic engagement. The SpeakUP Webinar on Youth Debate aims to empower young people to express themselves, participate meaningfully, and take ownership of the civic challenges that shape their communities.

Organised by ALDA within the SpeakUP Project, co-funded by the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) Programme of the European Union, the session titled “From Awareness to Action: Using Debate to Mobilise Youth around Civic Issues” focuses on practical ways to integrate debate methodologies into youth programmes. Participants will discover how debate can move young people from passive observation to active participation in civic life.

The session will demonstrate how debate can:

  • Spark awareness about civic issues in relatable and engaging ways;

  • Encourage collaborative brainstorming for shared solutions;

  • Build consensus and strengthen teamwork within organisations;

  • Test arguments and refine projects before public presentation;

  • Develop key civic and soft skills such as communication, empathy, and critical thinking.

Led by expert trainers and facilitated by Matilde Ferrari from ALDA, the webinar will provide concrete strategies and free resources to help NGOs and educators embed debate techniques in their activities, ensuring that young participants don’t just attend meetings — they co-create, question, and lead.

Participation is free and open to all interested organisations and youth practitioners.
