Burcu joined ALDA as project assistant in June 2024. She holds Spanish Language and Literature
degree from Istanbul University and a double degree in Master of European Studies from Bilgi
University and Viadrina European University. Her master’s thesis focused on the influence of
participatory democracy mechanisms on local governments in two key areas; environment and
climate.
She worked as a coordinator on climate and environmental projects for 3 years in Turkish NGOs,
served as an editor for a green business magazine and did fieldwork on participatory budgeting in the
one of the most populated municipalities of Istanbul, Şişli. Since 2020, she has volunteered as a
researcher with the Public Expenditure Monitoring Platform. She contributed in creating green
indicators for municipalities of Turkey for the Green Municipality Scorecard, published in 2020 and
2021.
