Time to #beHEARD: citizens opinion on democracy and COVID-19

Heard

How far has the COVID-19 crisis affected the democratic debate, the enjoyment of fundamental rights and work and life of women through gender perspective? It has influenced people’s lives in many ways and manifested itself in many undesirable forms, it has caused many deaths, impacting the global economy and employment, without mentioning the quality of life in society.

Therefore, on 16th November 2022, ALDA and the Municipality of Vimercate (IT) participated at the kick-off meeting of a new CERV project called HEARD, which exactly addresses the above-mentioned topics.

Citizens opinion on the effect of COVID-19 on democracy: join the "HEARD" surveys

Having that in mind, it is necessary to engage with citizens, allowing them to have their say on these matters, fostering a bottom-up approach. Therefore, ALDA and Vimercate have created 3 surveys to find out how the COVID-19 crisis has affected:

  • The democratic debate,
  • The enjoyment of fundamental rights,
  • The work and life balance of women

Would you like to express your opinions, and be directly involved in a CERV project? This is the perfect occasion! The surveys will only take a couple minutes to be completed but they would be fundamental for the analysis of the phenomenon and the continuation of project activities. [Please note: since each partners is taking care of specific geographical areas, the following ones are focusing only on people living in Northern area of Italy]

Youth participation and digitalisation: fostering democracy at the CivSocDays 2023

🔸🔸🔸Civil Society Days! Register here to the “Workshop 6: Digital participation and digital rights in the European public space: a focus on youth” 🔸🔸🔸

From March 1 to 3, ALDA will organise two workshop in the Civil Society Days 2023 (#CivSocDays) in Brussels!

From a general perspective, this yearly event, organised by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) since 2016, symbolises the cooperation between the EESC and the Liaison Group, having the latter as representative of  European CSOs and networks.

Hence, the EESC uses this opportunity to highlight the work the civil society organisations have accomplished so far; while seeing what trail they are blazing and opening the door for dialogue and participation.

The event brings together citizens, civil society organisations and European institutions and is thus a prime example of the EESC putting deeds to the words of Article 11 of the Treaty on the European Union. Entitled: ‘Civil society organisations: a pillar of democracy and a key player to overcome current challenges’, #CivSocDays tackle an intriguing and present topic without a doubt.

CivSocDays 2023 - ‘Civil society organisations: a pillar of democracy and a key player to overcome current challenges’

Two compelling workshops will be presented by ALDA, whereof one together with the European Digital Rights initiative (EDRi), on civic engagement, youth participation and digitalisation: persistently relevant subjects in our ever changing society!

Registrations for the event will open in February.  Are you unable to attend in person? No problem! The Civil Society Days offer the possibility to join via web-streams. However, registration will still be necessary.

Overall, this three-day event will take place in the EESC headquarters in Brussels (Belgium) and will be brimming with interesting talks and workshops by experts from the field. It is a great opportunity to meet similar organisations, boost the networking and engage in dialogues and ideas exchange. ALDA would love to see some familiar faces at this flagship civil society conference, and meeting new ones. See you at the #CivSocDays!

3 STEPS Policy Brief: another great result for the project!

The 3STEPS project  – Fostering education and inclusion of disadvantages refugee and migrant learners,  is coming to an end. So, time has come for us to share another great result achieved by the project consortium!

3 STEPS is an Erasmus+ Programme KA3 ‘Support for Policy Reform’ and intends to increase the chances of migrants and refugees to remain within the educational and vocational system of their host country by providing them basic skills as well as a stable grounding for further personal achievements. The project aims to upscale two successful methodologies previously implemented ‘Basic Education Classes’ and ‘Tandem Now’ selected in 2017 by the European Commission as “inspiring resource” to tackle early school leaving.

In this framework, the 3 STEPS partners drafted a Policy Brief to encourage other teaching and training institutions to adapt and develop the two methodologies mentioned above, and employed in the 3STEPS project, within their countries and contexts.

The Policy Brief represents another great result for the 3STEPS project

This Policy Brief provides an overview of the 3 STEPS methodologies, formulates some relevant recommendations from the fieldwork of the 3 STEPS project, and proposes actions towards a more inclusive education, promoting full educational and personal development, participation in society and transition into the labour market of young migrants and refugees.
